Exhibit by Janice Everett

The exhibit consists of a series of photomontage works that explore the ways in which images of urban life can be transformed into dynamic compositions using reflective layouts.

Janice Everett was born and educated in London U.K. and gained her MA in art and design at the Royal College of Art. Shortly afterwards, in the mid 1970’s, she moved to New York City pursuing a career in fashion and textile design while continuing to participate in various art forms in the downtown scene of SoHo and Tribeca. By the early 1980’s she had migrated to the yet undiscovered Gowanus area with a community of fellow artists who converted adjacent loft buildings into live/work spaces where she still lives.

Since it’s inception Everett has been part of the annual Gowanus Open Studio events and has shown her work in curated group shows at Proteus, 440 Gallery and Ground Floor Gallery in addition to various fundraiser exhibits in Manhattan and Brooklyn such as Art in a box, Sideshow Nation, Postcards from the Edge and benefits for Arts Gowanus.

Over the last few years, her artwork, which has evolved from paper and fabric to digital imaging using original photography, has been exhibited in gallery booths at ArtExpo NY, the Hamptons Art Fair, Spectrum Miami, and the ArtBlend Winter exhibit in Fort Lauderdale and featured in an interview by Meagan Meehan from Artblend Magazine on the Alexander Gurman channel.

The recent work of geometric photomontages are created by repeating images of the urban landscape in reflected layouts that combine views of architectural facades, and street textures with sky, water and trees.
