Flip the House! (BLUE)
Join Dirty Waltz Band (dirtywaltzband.com), Little Silver (littlesilvermusic.com), and live-karaoke extraordinaires, The Occasionalists (occasionalists.com) - for a benefit to take back the House of Representatives! 100% of the night’s proceeds will go toward supporting the Democratic challenger (TBD in June primary) running against incumbent Dan Donovan (NY-11), a consistent enabler of Trump's nightmare agenda and the only remaining Republican congressman in New York City!
As much as we celebrate our singular snowflake status on this earth, the hard truth is that each of our own personal books of life read much the same as those of our neighbors. Brooklyn’s Little Silver have come to well understand the nature of shared experience - comings and goings, takings and givings, leaps and losses and ashes and dust - and have written their debut LP, Somewhere You Found My Name, as a testament to life's universal and specific experiences.
Dirty Waltz Band
Dirty Waltz Band plays more than a dozen instruments in countless genres. Performing originals and arranging songs new and old, they borrow from Balkan, Irish, jazz, blues, and American folk traditions (to name a few). From Tom Waits to Fermin Alcarez, Henry Mancini to Neko Case, their inspirations span oceans and centuries. And what do our songs have in common? They are all in waltz time. Featuring Mike Shapiro (piano, harmonica and vocals), Rebecca Hart (guitar and vocals), Susie Greenebaum (violin), Mollie McQuarrie (accordion and banjolele), Rob Rapley (guitar and dobro), Ben Arons (drums and percussion) and Chris Nattrass (double bass). Long before Elvis there was the waltz and the waltz was dirty. "Riotous and indecent" they called it. They were right. Where there is a will, there is a WALTZ.
The Occasionalists (LIVE KARAOKE BAND)
The Occasionalists are a live karaoke band that plays a varied selection of rock, pop, soul, hip hop and punk with the loose, spontaneous feel of a child learning to ride a bike. The hook is the thrill of a new vocalist for each song: you, the audience member. It's not your typical bouncing-ball karaoke, this is a live band and you are a rock star (for 3-5 minutes). Made up of four Brooklyn locals, the band knows the spirit of rock n roll lives in everyone, and we invite the talented and the brave to join together with the band. Started four years ago as a living room experiment, the band has evolved into a fundraising machine in the Trump era, playing regular shows under the banner of Live Karaoke for the Resistance. In 2017 alone, the band raised over $20,000 for organizations supporting women's rights, immigrant rights, the environment, education, anti-violence and various LGBTQ causes. The music has gotten tighter, the song list longer and our shows more epic than ever before. Come out to the most fun form of protest since the 60's. Follow The Occasionalists on Facebook and check out our website at occasionalists.com.
