Coke Weed
Coke Weed
Coke Weed are an unpredictable and electrifying rock band from Bar Harbor, Maine. Formed in 2010, they released their first full-length Volume 1, in 2011. Coke Weed draws deep from the well of 1960s counterculture rock and roll. With boy/girl lead vocals and duets, the five piece band is made up of indie rock lifers and exciting young talents. Currently finishing their second album, recorded in a barn on Mt. Desert Island with producer Nick Stumpf.

"Coke Weed describes their sound as psychedelic art garage, and that's not a bad fit, as along with the rawness there's an experimental almost free-form construction to songs. While "Not My Old Man" sounds like a Chan Marshall-led Velvet Underground roaring through soundcheck, "The Frizz" plays like the acid-tongued duet Johnny and June never recorded." -everbodytaste.com

J. Wise's “Above Ground Episodes” is an 8 song LP with a DVD of experimental visual “episodes” organized in a loose narrative sequence. A>G>E is the crack ensemble that conjures and continually reinvents this music in a live setting. The under-the-radar project was completely funded via kickstarter.com, recorded in Brooklyn with producer Nick Stumpf and filmed in forests and swamps with director Theo Burtis. All of the packaging artwork was silkscreened and painted by hand in Wise’s apartment and released to backers in a signed limited edition. Wise has taken as a personal mission direct contact with supporters of the project and fans of the concept and is planning the next release. All the same, he's pretty bad at managing his online presence. Hopefully everyone understands.

“This is deep night music. Circadian rhythm music.”

—Mouth of Cargile Review

"At first I couldn’t really tell what sort of performance I was walking into. It sounded like someone trying to talk to a fire. The music was sometimes percussive and rolling, other times spare and meditative. Specters of something or other. I wonder what Above Ground Episodes means? Like above as opposed to underground? Or literally hovering in the air? I guess in the end I found myself thinking of mantras or old stories that repeat themselves until they become as unconscious as breathing. Or like myths, maybe. The way they can, for an instant, conjure something lost—or foretell the future. Does any of this help?"
