Zombie Prom 2014
Zombie Prom 2014
Attention Gore-and-Music-Lovers: The Zombie Prom is back for the sixth year in a row. This Halloween, join the undead in Gowanus (toxic river = toxic zombies) at littlefield, one of Brooklyn’s hottest warehouse-come-performance spaces. Stomp rotting feet and clap decrepit hands to some of New York’s most monstrous bands: The Hollows; Sylvana Joyce & the Moment, Corn Mo and T.R.J.B. Best costumes are crowned King and Queen (Note: Bizarre zombie costumes encouraged. No need to limit it to tuxes and tulle!). Plus, prom-style photos can be taken at our famous blood-splattered photo booth. Tricks, treats, and raffle prizes included.

Proceeds support PERSONAL SPACE THEATRICS. Personal Space Theatrics, Inc. is a local non-profit theater company dedicated to serving a curious and passionate audience by removing the barrier between performer and audience.
The Hollows - (Set time: 11:30 PM)
The Hollows
The Hollows are a roots-rock ensemble of multi-instrumentalists— a freewheeling hootenanny of a band. A veritable junkyard of mandolins, banjos, guitars, keyboards, horns, harmonicas, and various other musical doodads are in constant rotation, and with no frontman (or six frontmen), everyone writes and arranges material, creating a diverse and uniquely blended sound.

Their debut LP, Belong to the Land, was recorded at The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY and released in August 2011. Soon after, the band was voted The Deli Magazine’s “NYC Artist of the Month” and showcased in the 2011 CMJ Music Marathon. “Poor Eyes,” the band’s first music video, was released in February 2012 (its release party garnering a “Critic’s Pick” in TimeOut NY), and the track was later highlighted in the soundtrack to Bob Giraldi‘s short film A Poet Long Ago (2013). ”Basilica” and “Home” have also appeared in the soundtrack to Sun Belt Express, a feature film starring Tate Donovan which is currently making the rounds at festivals.

A follow-up self-titled EP was tracked at Brooklyn’s Grand Street Recording and Galaxy Smith Studios and released in June 2012, landing features on Spinner, The Huffington Post, MSN, WCBS FM, Pure Volume, and MP3.com, among others. A second music video, “August,” was released that July on BaebleMusic.

The Hollows showcased again in the 2012 CMJ Music Marathon and attended South by Southwest 2013 in Austin, TX. A live album, Neverending Show, was released in April 2013 and was called “a fresh breath of true musician spirit” that offered “a soulful, powerful and thick sound” and captured “everything that makes seeing The Hollows live in concert so much fun.”

The band recently completed main tracking for their next full-length studio album at The Bunker in Brooklyn with producer John Siket (Sonic Youth, Phish, Yo La Tengo, Dave Matthews Band) and engineer James Frazee (Beck, Patti Smith, Esperanza Spalding).

Onstage, The Hollows are a high-octane, unpredictable barn-burner. You can expect a lot of foot-stomping, over-the-top toasts to life and death, and a good bit of sweat. Put on yer dancin’ shoes.

Sylvana Joyce And The Moment - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Sylvana Joyce And The Moment
Sylvana Joyce and her band, the Moment, were founded in the summer of 2010 when Sylvana put out a craigslist ad looking for musicians to bring life to her music. But don't let their status of ingenue fool you: Six months after the band's inception, they had already received recognition from the industry, with a full week feature by MTV and Ourstage as a "Needle in the Haystack" Artist. Sylvana's band has already graced the stage over 70 times, including festivals, showcases and live performances in NYC, New Jersey and Boston. They have also garnered a following through their musical features at The Inspired Word, a spoken word series which have featured a slew of industry talent including Golden Globe Award winners, Grammy nominated singers, American Idol finalists, and HBO Def Poetry stars. They've been nominated for "Best Band" and "Outstanding Music Video" at the 2010-2011 Hoboken Music Awards and are the WINNERS of the 2012 No Contracts Needed Battle of The Bands competition hosted by UnRegular Radio, a popular online indie station based in Boston, MA. Sylvana, a classically trained pianist and professional actress, leads a showstopping performance with her powerhouse voice and natural star quality. Sylvana Joyce and The Moment's music is the perfect mix of gypsy rock, blues and cabaret that has drawn comparisons to Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Gogol Bordello and The Dresden Dolls.
Corn Mo - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
Corn Mo
Corn Mo has toured America and Europe supporting the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, Wheatus, The Pontani Sisters, Ben Folds, They Might Be Giants and the Polyphonic Spree. He is Disco Mountain Man in the band Tragedy. In the studio, he shared vocals with Ben Folds on Folds' cover of "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" for the Supersunnyspeedygraphic EP, joined the choir for the Polyphonic Spree's Together We're Heavy and played accordion on TMBG's "Particle Mo". He has written 7 albums, the latest being The Purchase of the North Pole. He co-wrote a musical about Grizzly Adams with Nick Jones. He co-wrote "Rainbow Song" with Nick Offerman of Parks and Rec. He is currently co-producing a ballet called SEVERED: The Tragic Loves of Frankenstein's Monster with the music from The Purchase of the North Pole.
