The Sway Machinery's Annual Purim Carnivale! - (Set time: 10:00 PM)
The Sway Machinery's Annual Purim Carnivale!
BROOKLYN UNITES to CELEBRATE, DANCE and PERFORM ACTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!

For those who have seen The Sway Machinery in action, little explanation is needed. The band's combination of rhythmic power and potent folklore takes no prisoners. On stage the energy of submerged worlds is torn out into the light of day. And indeed, the historical tradition of Cantorial music, which is the focus of the band's work, is very much a lost world. The music of The Sway Machinery invites the listener to become like children wandering in the forest, discovering something mythic and wonderful.

The Sway Machinery traveled to Mali in January 2010, performing for an enthusiastic audience of thousands at the Festival au Desert in Timbuktu! After the festival the band spent ten days recording a new record in Bamako, collaborating with absolutely brilliant Malian musicians including Khaira Arby, Super 11, Vieux Farka Toure and Djelimady Tounkara resulting in the album The House of Friendly Ghosts, Vol. 1, released in 2011.

The Sway Machinery has toured the world in the years since, performing on 5 continents over the last three years. The band is as likely to be seen in the ruins of historic spaces in its native NYC as to be on stage at major international festivals. Good times here, better down the road...all worlds collide in moments of joy and reconciliation with our friends the ghosts!
Mitra Sumara - (Set time: 9:00 PM)
Mitra Sumara is a super group of New York City musicians dedicated to the vibrant pop and funk music of 60s/70s Iran. This big-band of 8 members plays hits by Iran's beloved divas Googoosh, Pari Zangeneh, Parva, and intoxicating Bandari beat tunes by Zia Atabi.

The sound of pre-Revolutionary Iran mixes the beats of Fela Kuti, Salsa, and Disco; with Mid-East melodies, a cool LA breeze, and tragic poetry. Mitra Sumara captures all this and more. The band puts own spin on these infectious, funky, psychedelic tunes and plays new arrangements of traditional Iranian folk songs. Mitra Sumara brings on the hot Persian grooves with funky bass lines, deep interlocking percussion, and wailing brass to keep you dancing all night long!

Mitra Sumara is the creation of lead singer Yvette Perez who is half-Persian. The group features formidable musicians from all points of NYC's rock, jazz, and experimental music scenes.
