Curtis Macdonald is an alto saxophonist and composer who grew up near one of the most desirable creative communities in North America, the Banff Centre – a carefully balanced, fertile environment tailored exclusively for community and artistic development. In 2007, he graduated cum laude from the New School University in NYC where he immediately became faculty. Today he can be seen leading his ensemble, composed of world-class improvising musicians, throughout New York City’s most respected jazz and creative music venues.

Based in Brooklyn, Macdonald is part of the next generation of great saxophonists. ‘Community Immunity’, his debut release on Dave Douglas’ Greenleaf Music is the first of what will surely be many great Curtis Macdonald projects in the years to come.

Chris Speed’s Yeah NO
The brainchild of Chris Speed, YeahNO was created in 1996, after the improvisations the band made in their early rehearsals were developed into an unusual book of music. Using their love of free jazz, modern rock, eastern folk and minimalistic ideas as their pallet they fused their strong individual improvisational talents into a warm, cohesive and explosive sound. Since their debut record in 1997, they thrived in the center of new music in NYC and have toured in the States and Europe. After a run of three records (yeah NO, Deviantics, Emit) on the Canadian label Songlines, they joined with the avant/experimental label Squealer Records, who released their latest cd ‘Swell Henry’ in 2004.

The Kris Davis Trio
Kris Davis has quickly grown to become a vital contributor to New York's jazz scene. An artist exploring the balance between improvisation and composition, her writing and pianistic prowess have been described as 'adventurous' and 'refreshing'.
“Davis’s music is winding and darkly energetic – an original voice. Her music is a mix of labyrinthine rhythms and melodic touches. Davis is a thoughtful composer with an ear toward the full realization of her music through cooperative group dynamics.”
-Daniel Sheehan (

“Ms. Davis’s style is wide, and dependent on its context: a kind of tour of post-free jazz and contemporary classical music, Keith Jarrett to Cecil Taylor to Morton Feldman.” –Ben Ratliff (NY Times)
