Butterboy with Jo, Aparna and Maeve
Three chuckle monsters descend on Littlefield every Monday at 8pm, clutching with them a horde of the freshest, silver-tongued comics and phone sex operators this city has to offer. Legends in their own right, these three friends, Aparna Nancherla, Maeve Higgins and Jo Firestone combine forces to host the funniest and best show in Gowanus! Accompanied by the musical stylings of DJ Donwill and the sensual silence of a rotating Idris Elba impersonator, you won't want to miss it. Plus, find out which parts of this blurb are bold, unapologetic lies!
Jo Firestone is a comedian whose work can be seen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Chris Gethard Show, and heard on WFMU and Earwolf. She was recently named a New Face at the 2016 Just for Laughs Festival, and her Comedy Central half hour comes out this fall. If you like puns, check out her board game, Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers. If you don't like puns, don't worry about it. You can also see Jo doing stand-up in different basements around the city.
Aparna Nancherla is a comedian of the stand-up variety, but can often be seen sitting. Last year, she released her debut album, Just Putting It Out There, on Tig Notaro’s new label, Bentzen Ball Records and recorded a Comedy Central half hour special. This year, she was named one of “The 50 Funniest People Right Now” by Rolling Stone. Currently, you can catch her on the latest seasons of Bojack Horseman, Master of None and Love, all on Netflix, as well as on HBO's Crashing. She's also written for Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC) and Totally Biased (FX). Aparna will next appear on the upcoming Comedy Central show, Corporate.
Maeve Higgins is the host of the hit podcast Maeve In America: Immigration IRL. She has performed all over the world, including in her native Ireland, Edinburgh, Melbourne and, most recently, Erbil. Now based in New York, she's made a name for herself there too. In a good way! She co-hosts Neil deGrasse Tyson's StarTalk on National Geographic and has appeared in Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer. Her work has been published in The New York Times and The Irish Times, and she is writing a book of essays for Penguin due for publication later this year.
Naomi has been making audiences laugh for over 10 years--from coast to coast and on both hemispheres. She can be found performing at such New York City venues as The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, Gotham Comedy Club, or Karma Lounge, where she produces the monthly show Coyote Average. You may have seen her on VH1's "The Short List," on the 5 Funny Females tour, or maybe on tour with the National Theater of the Deaf back in 2005.
Sydnee Washington was born in New York City but spent most of her childhood in Oakland, California. She has a laid back approach to life which makes the bite to her comedy only slightly more palatable. Sydnee co-hosts a super high energy and consistently funny monthly Comedy show in the Lower East Side called 'The Warm Up.' There she hones her skills for the various spots and hosting gigs she has where she consistently wins over the jaded New Yorkers who brave the City’s comedy scene. Her humor and view toward vanity, dating both sexes, and how to party safely as a woman are both unique and refreshing.
Meaghan Strickland is a comedian in NYC. Before NY, Meaghan was in Chicago doing standup, improv and sketch. She was on the Harold Team Smokin' Hot Dad at the iO Theater, she was a cast member of Holy Fuck Comedy Hour at The Annoyance Theater and she performed standup at The Laugh Factory, Zanies Comedy Club and Chicago Underground Comedy. Here in New York, Meaghan hosts A Late Night Show that is Also Live at The Brooklyn Comedy Collective and is a cast member of TV Dinner. Meaghan is also part of the sketch duo Lovers with Tim Lamphier, a very funny dude. Lastly, and most importantly, Meaghan’s lucky number is 42 (it’s a long story, which she’d love to share).
Will Martin is a Boston comedian who charms audiences across New England with the vibe of a childless fun dad. He's performed at the Comedy Studio, The Gas, the Motor City Comedy Festival, and the Women in Comedy Festival. Will co-produces Pavement Comedy Night. He is a member of the ImprovBoston National Touring Company and the ImprovBoston Family Show.
Chris Daniels hails out of the Michigan comedy scene, where he began performing locally and then at clubs throughout the Midwest, before moving to his current home of New York City. Chris’ keen observational humor ranges across a variety of topics from his personal upbringing to the comic books, movies, sports and pop culture that have defined his existence. He has performed at the Detroit Comedy Festival, Gilda’s Laughfest, the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, and New York Comedy Festival. You can catch him on the road or at his NYC shows, Auntie’s House (monthly) and Comedy at Beauty Bar (every Sunday night).
