Night Train with Wyatt Cenac
Hosted by Brooklyn-based comedy favorite Wyatt Cenac, Night Train show features comedy from the best local and international stand up comedians, and--at times--special guest appearances by musicians, local celebrities, and the occasional surprise only found in Gowanus.
Claudia Cogan has appeared as a semifinalist on Last Comic Standing, been a talking head on Vh1, and received three nominations for an Excellence in Comedy in New York award. She is the winner of the first Time Out New York Joke of the Year. She was featured in New York Magazine's Ten People Funny People Find Funny. Her festival appearances include Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, and San Francisco SketchFest. Her jokes have been featured on Rooftop Comedy and Youtube's Official Comedy Channel.
Josh Gondelman is a writer and comedian who incubated in Boston before moving to New York City. With years of experience as a preschool teacher and a pretty good guy, Josh charms audiences using his good-natured storytelling and cracks them up with his sharp, pointy wit. Josh’s comedy touches on topics from rainbows to gangsta rap and makes them all equally hilarious thanks to his terrific writing and performing. In 2010, Josh traveled to Atlanta for the inaugural Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, where he turned heads and captured first prize! Since then he has become an in-demand performer on a national scale. He has performed at the Rooftop Comedy Festival in Aspen, CO, and headlined at the Laugh Your Asheville Off Festival in Asheville, NC. More recently he has appeared in the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival and SF Sketchfest. Josh’s grandmother was especially thrilled to see him on television on G4?s “Attack of the Show” and MavTV’s “Rooftop on the Road.” His first CD, “Everything’s The Best” was released in November of 2011 by Rooftop Comedy Productions.
Shalewa Sharpe got her start in Atlanta but now resides in Brooklyn. She has joked on extremely popular live shows (Night Train with Wyatt Cenac, Comedy Night at The Knitting Factory) and at festivals (Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Atlanta’s Red Clay Comedy Festival). She co-produces and hosts “Thug Passion Presents,” a lively table read and celebration of classic black movies. Her debut album, “Stay Eating Cookies,” on Rotknee Presents Records came out this year.
Joe Pera is from Buffalo and has been doing standup in New York since 2009. Though he misses his family a great deal, Jet Blue’s $59 tickets from JFK to the Buffalo-Niagara airport make returning home for the weekend feasible in both expense and time. Joe has performed his low-key Buffalo Bills and Declaration of Independence jokes in a variety of venues including clubs, theaters, subway platforms, and art galleries that are more of someone’s house than an art gallery, as well as at his own weekly show ‘The Dan + Joe + Charles’ Show’ (every Tuesday at 8pm at the Creek and Cave).
Raghav Mehta is an aggressively nervous comedian and writer living and breathing in the frosty metropolis of Minneapolis, MN. He was named one of Growler's 'Top 5 MN Comics To Watch' in 2015 and is the co-producer of the monthly comedy show Good Night America. He's had the pleasure of opening for Maria Bamford, Emo Phillips and Hari Kondabolu and his work has been published in Thought Catalog, City Pages and Minnesota Public Radio. Most days he can be found flailing at a nearby open mic, researching water futures or getting back at the world one caustic tweet at the time. Once when he was 5-years old he stole a deck of Batman Returns-themed playing cards from a drug store in upstate New York and never looked back. He is also brown and needs your love.
Sonia Denis is a New York-based comedian by way of Chicago, IL. Sonia’s stand-up can be described as confessional, frenetic and another cool adjective. Sonia was recently named one of Comedy Central's 2016 Comics to Watch at the New York Comedy Festival. She co-stars in the critically acclaimed Emmy nominated web-series BROWN GIRLS. Her writing has been featured on McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and Brightest Young Things.
Dwayne Kennedy, a Chicago native, has developed into one of the nation's top comedians. His social commentary and satirical diversions demonstrate a comic genius that is truly unique. Touted as 'one of today's most insightful comedians,' he has performed his stand-up act in comedy clubs nationwide. He was awarded the Jury Award for best stand-up at the 2002 US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, and was a semifinalist on NBC's "Last Comic Standing" Season 5. Currently you can see Dwayne on the FX show "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell". His television appearances include "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien". Last year, Dwayne starred in his own half-hour comedy special for Showtime. An accomplished actor, Dwayne has made numerous guest appearances on television programs that include the hit series "Seinfeld" and "Martin". Included among his many film credits are "How High", "Desperation Boulevard", "Amy Stiller's Breast", and "Talkin' Dirty After Dark". Dwayne Kennedy's comedic style incorporates an exceptional mixture of razor-sharp wit, biting satire and social consciousness that consistently leaves audiences desperate for more.
