Sam Morril
Sam Morril
Sam Morril is one of the fastest rising comics in New York City and is also one of the best joke writers in the scene today. How do you know that's true? Because he is writing this bio, and he wouldn't lie about it to get extra work. He performed as a New Face at the 2013 Just For Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival and was recently featured on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Sam has also appeared on The Artie Lange Show on DirecTV and MSG’s The Bracket. He won March Madness 2010 at Comix, has performed at a Friars Roast and was featured in a 4-page spread in the Daily News as "one of the four funniest in New York". He then won the Laughing Skull Festival in Atlanta, beating out over 600 applicants. Sam was named a 2011 “Comic to Watch” by Comedy Central. His comedy can be heard on Sirius XM radio, and you can see him regularly at all the best clubs in New York City. Come see Sam before his ego gets too big to do small rooms.
Sabrina Jalees
Sabrina Jalees
Sabrina Jalees is a comedian, actor, keynote speaker and writer based in New York City (Brooklyn.) Since stepping onto the stage of (Toronto’s) Yuk Yuk’s amateur night at 16, she’s become one of the most recognizable faces in the Canadian media. Lovers of comedy were immediately intrigued by the ½ -Pakistani, ½ -Swiss teen’s humor (…mostly because she was so damned clever (and admittedly, partially due to her moustache at the time).
She was soon skipping class to tour the country. Going on to record a CTV Comedy Now special, perform at the famed Just For Laughs Festival and break Mike Myers’ record as the youngest improviser ever hired by Second City. Between now and then she’s crossed over into acting (CBS’s Flashpoint, Lifetime’s Mom at Sixteen), hosts a Canadian reality series (YTV’s In Real Life) as well as a national radio show (CBC’s Laugh Out Loud) and is best known for her rapier wit as a fixture of the most popular show on Canada’s version of MTV (Much Music’s Video On Trial).
Shalewa Sharpe
Shalewa Sharpe
Shalewa Sharpe got her start in Atlanta but now resides in Brooklyn. She has joked on extremely popular live shows (Night Train with Wyatt Cenac, Comedy Night at The Knitting Factory) and at festivals (Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Atlanta’s Red Clay Comedy Festival). She co-produces and hosts “Thug Passion Presents,” a lively table read and celebration of classic black movies. Her debut album, “Stay Eating Cookies,” on Rotknee Presents Records came out this year.
Charla Lauriston
Charla Lauriston
Charla Lauriston is a girl and a comedian based in New York. She's the writer, creator, and star of the web series 'Clench & Release' and the host of School Night, a weekly variety show at UCB. She’s been featured on MTV (Other)’s Truth or Dare, has performed stand-up and/or improv at the Charleston Comedy Festival, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the She-Devil Festival, and was a featured headliner at the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival. In 2013, Charla was listed as one of 8 Black Women Ready for SNL by Essence Magazine and one time she was briefly mentioned in TimeOut Chicago as being “real good”.
Gilbert Lawand
Gilbert Lawand
Gilbert Lawand left the corporate world in 2007 and helped usher in an Atlanta comedy boom by producing and hosting over 300 shows called "Comedy Gold." In 2015, he was a finalist in the Laughing Skull Festival and also produced the first annual Red Clay Comedy Festival. Gilbert has opened up large theater shows for both Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari. He recently moved to New York where he resides in Brooklyn.
