About P.S. 295 – The Studio School of Arts and Culture
PS 295 (http://www.ps295.org), located at 330 18th Street in Brooklyn, is a community that embraces diversity by nurturing strengths and talents to educate the whole child socially, academically, culturally and artistically through differentiation in all facets of learning. In recognizing that all children learn in different ways, the school believes that an arts integrated curriculum cultivates a more meaningful discovery of self, enhances prior knowledge, supports content and language development, and encourages a strong respect and appreciation for the arts. The school’s strong professional development program provides ongoing learning and leadership opportunities for all members, while helping students become lifelong learners and leaders of the future.
With years of sharing the stage with artists like Neko Case, Rachael Yamagata, Nicole Atkins, Gillian Welch, Linda Rondstadt, and Amos Lee, Woodstock, New York singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Adrien Reju continues to build an evolving and impressive career in music. Now she's expanding her art into new realms with the release of her latest studio project, Strange Love & the Secret Language. an album being billed as "a collection of unconventional love songs," released on Zip Records, August 7th, 2015. The album was recorded in Woodstock with the production duo The Elegant Too (P. Diddy, Yoko Ono, John Cale) and offers listeners a lush, deeply textured indie pop record, with comparisons to Fleetwood Mac and Feist, that has caught the attention of Triple A radio stations including WDST (Woodstock) and WXPN (Philadelphia), and finds Reju in the company of fellow Woodstock artists A.C. Newman (The New Pornographers) and Marco Benevento. In addition to her striking original songs, Reju also covers tunes by David Bowie, Elliot Smith, and Prince. Glide Magazine says, "Here Reju has collaborated with her musical contemporaries, recorded choice covers and delivered a lucid album that resonates on first listen – pretty much an ideal album concept."
Since he began playing covers at age 12 to earn tips in local coffee shops, Andy Stack has consistently struck a chord with his crowd. He formally started touring with a blues band when he was 15 years old, later attending SUNY Purchase for his musical training. Although he has played guitar in several bands, Andy now writes and sings his own original music.
With his guitar in hand, Andy has toured the US several times, played throughout Europe, and showcased his skills in festivals from Bonnaroo to the Toronto and Montreal Jazz Festivals. Andy has toured/recorded with such noted performers as Jonah Smith, Les Nubians, NY Ska Jazz Ensemble, Duncan Sheik, Suzanne Vega and others. He's also opened for artists including Martin Sexton, Madeline Peyroux, Little Feat,Los Lobos, Charlie Hunter, Taj Mahal, among others. Recently Andy has opened for Dar Williams and Guy Davis in support of his most recent solo record: "Like A Light", available here!
Andy is a member of AFM local 802 and an ASCAP songwriter. Andy also endorses D'addario guitar strings. When not on the road you can find him in his home city, NYC. Check out the duo She and the Sun with Sister, Melissa Ahern. Andy is also available at times for session work on guitar, bass, bg vocals, keyboard, mandolin, and has a growing number of students who take lessons in person, over the internet, and with the National Guitar Workshop.
Bahia native and percussionist superhero Gilmar Gomes is best known for working with the likes of Shakira, Gilberto Gil and Angelique Kidjo - and currently playing with Enrique Iglesias. He has also been stepping up as a bandleader both here and in Brazil, singing his own repertoire, accompanying himself on a variety of instruments and surrounding himself with fantastic musicians.
Superette (ft. Nels Cline of Wilco)
Bassist Chris Lightcap (best known for his work with Craig Taborn, Matt Wilson, Regina Carter and his critically acclaimed supergroup Bigmouth) conceived Superette as a new spin on the classic garage band. Together, Chris and his fellow fearless improvisers Curtis Hasselbring, Dan Rieser and special guest Nels Cline of Wilco explore the nexus of surf, west african music, garage and beyond.
