FOR THE LOVE OF HAITI: A Haiti Benefit Event

We've gathered our party troupe's 'for the love of haiti' in a benefit event to support Housing Works & PHAP+ a coalition of Haiti based AIDS organizations. Housing Works has a long standing support network in working with PHAP+, and in the aftermath of the tragic earthquake of January 2010, they've already brought to Haiti over $40K of direct relief that includes necessities from food & shelter too medical support and a piece of mind. We love that they are completely transparent in where all the monies are going, and donators can rest assure their support is going directly to the front lines by reading the daily blogs from their staff on the ground in Haiti. Please support by coming together for this amazing collaboration of musical tribes. Many are not only emotionally charged with their own personal stories of loss in the aftermath of the earthquake, but all with a need to share their talents in a communal ceremony of dancing and rhythms, that includes you, in doing what we can collectively to support both physically and spiritually the ON GOING relief and rebuilding efforts in Haiti.

BONGA & THE VODOU DRUMS OF HAITI

BONGA & THE VODOU DRUMS OF HAITI present traditional Afro-Haitian roots music in its most raw and enchanting form. Percussion virtuoso Bonga Jean-Baptiste leads this versatile drum and dance ensemble with his mastery of intricate Vodou rhythms. He and son Tiga Jean-Baptiste, a skilled ceremonial drummer and mbira player, use handcrafted drums from Bonga’s collection with a deft and precision rarely seen outside of Haiti. As a core member of the seminal Haitian roots bands, Boukman Eksperyans and Foulà, Bonga was invited to the U.S. in the '90s when musicians were becoming a strong voice for the Haitian people. Since then, Bonga has continued to play solo and in ensemble and at numerous worldwide venues. He is a featured performer with Peter Yarrow, Grace Jones, Dan Zanes and Urban Tap, to mention a few. His drums opened the NY premiere of the Rolling Stones "Voodoo Lounge" tour and he is prominently featured on recordings by Wyclef Jean and Salif Keita.

JEPHTE GUILLAUME

JEPHTE GUILLAUME, musician/producer established Tet Kale Records in 1999, as an outlet to release the brand of Afro-Haitian rhythms and jazz-influenced dance music for which he has received global acclaim. He grew up in Haiti in the midst of devotional drums, song and dance through the Vodou tradition, and in contrast his family's profound connection to Gospel Music, through the church. With Jephte's understanding of his own musical roots, and his intense involvement - performing as a bassist on the US/World stages - in Gospel, R&B, Soul, Rock, Hip Hop, Jazz, AfroBeat, Funk and Dance music, an alchemy was brewing in him to create a new groove concept that now stands on its own as the Tet Kale sound.
