Paul “MetroSonics” Josephs

Paul Josephs realized that music was his calling at the age of 13. Born and raised in NYC, Josephs honed his skills as a guitarist under the watchful eyes of some of Harlem’s finest underground jazz and blues legends including Rodney Jones and Moose and the Bullet Proof Blues Band. By age 16 Paul was performing with some of the bright lights of the New York blues scene. He went on to record a live album, as an emcee, with jazz guitar great Rodney Jones's Soul Manifesto project, and to tour with such musical legends as Maceo Parker, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Idris Muhammed, and Arthur Blythe. An accomplished guitarist, producer, singer, and emcee, Josephs has produced for or performed with, toured with, or recorded with such notable artists as Beyonce, Alice Smith, Groove Collective, Jean Grae, Citizen Cope, The Roots, Baba Israel, Toni Blackman, Imani Uzuri, D.J. Chela, Ra-Re Valverde and rock collective Earth Driver. In 2006 he set out to make his own musical passions a reality when he formed MetroSonics. The band is set to release its first album, Focused Fire, a unique blend of the myriad of musical styles that influenced Josephs, in February of 2010.

Although born in South Africa, Tsidi Ibrahim will always be a New Yorker by heart. The daughter of two jazz musicians, Ibrahim learned an appreciation for all genres of music at an early age giving her a good foundation on becoming a writer and producer. Then known as What? What?, she was recruited by a rapper named Ocean, who formed Natural Resource in the mid-90s. In 1997, they founded their own record label, Makin' Records, and released the single, "Negro League Baseball", which became an underground hip-hop classic. The group broke up due to creative differences, but the exposure worked towards her benefit. She changed her name to Jean Grae and appeared on a number of songs with artists such as Herbaliser, High & Mighty, the Mumia 911 Project, the Hip-Hop For Respect project, Mr. Len, Da Beatminerz and Masta Ace.

Scribe

Scribe fell in love with music at an early age and never fell out. His interest progressed from violin to piano to synthesizers to samplers to turntables. Inspired by Public Enemy and The Pharcyde in the golden age of 90s hip-hop, he began collecting records. Along with the dancehall reggae and acid jazz of the time, he was led him back in time to soul, funk, disco, r&b, roots reggae and jazz, and would later expand into a musical repertoire spanning afrobeat, house, broken-beat, latin, and his beloved 80s pop childhood roots. Scribe has been spinning full-time since 2002 and developed numerous notable and acclaimed residencies in NYC. In May 2009, Scribe founded I Love Vinyl, an all-vinyl party, with six resident djs.
