Jóhann Jóhannsson

Jóhann Jóhannsson is an Icelandic-born musician, composer and producer. His solo record Englabörn has been bewitching listeners with its stately, slow-building and hauntingly melodic music, frequently combining electronics with classical orchestrations, and has grown as an influential recording in the burgeoning field of post-classsical or neo-classical. Jóhann founded the Apparat Organ Quartet in 1999 who released one record and played European festivals to great acclaim. He is also an award-winning composer for film, theater and contemporary dance and founded the art organization/record label/think tank Kitchen Motors in 1999 with Kira Kira and Hilmar Jensson. As a prolific collaborator, Jóhann has worked and performed with Marc Almond (Stranger Things album), Barry Adamson and Pan Sonic, The Hafler Trio, Jaki Liebezeit, Laetitia Sadier, David Tibet, Baby Dee, and Larsen.

Lichens

Lichens is the name Robert Lowe has chosen for solo performance and recording. Using his voice, guitars and an array of devices and effects The Psychic Nature of Being was recorded at home, at Soma Studios and Camp Gay with Shelly Steffens and mastered by Griffin Rodriguez in Chicago. Each track was recorded as a one time improvisation without any overdubbing or editing. The extended tracks on The Psychic Nature of Being move from grainy shrouds of overlapping voices to shivery finger picked guitar and on into clanging percussion. It can be lyrical and mind bending, an apt reflection of Lowe's mesmerising performances.
